2018/CW26 Geezers Summer League

Villiers Adrien 01.07.2018

The 2018 Geezers summer league has once again been a success, for what is now a tradition for the Zürich-based club. After 9 weeks of competitive touch among 3 teams of the clubs (Angry Birds, Fawkes Phoenix and All stars), it was still uncertain who would win before the last game ! Indeed, Fawkes Phoenix and All Stars were playing against each other to decide who would win the 2018 edition. But let’s take a step back before disclosing the 2018 winner…

The 2018 summer league, played over nine weeks, each team playing three times against each other, has been held at the ASVZ Fluntern in Zürich. Every Monday, and during more than two months, every team (mixed!) had an opportunity to play a complete 2X20min touch game. In order to have two games every week, a fourth team of “Barbarians”, mixing players from all the other teams, was also competing. It has been a great opportunity for many people to discover and play Touch, and some newbies have already demonstrated their capacity and their skills for the game…
Despite an overall nice Spring in Zürich, the weather has been fickle on a few Mondays, but it didn’t stop the determination of the players to battle for the title! One has seen some very competitive games and a high level of Touch has been played on the pitch !

But at the end, it has to be a winner… After a first half really tight with the two teams scoring after each others, the red-shirt team finally made a difference in the second half to win this last game and consequently the league ! Congrats Fawkes Phoenix, and also many thanks to Kevin for referring every single game of the competition! After all these emotions, all players went to an Italian restaurant close by, in order to enjoy some well deserved pizzas and a few drinks…

For now holiday time has come, but the Geezers will keep training  at ASVZ Fluntern every Monday from 18:30. Any new players are of course welcome to join and discover this great sport ! And see you all next year for a new edition of the Summer league!
